The Louisiana Association of Public Employees'
Retirement Systems (LAPERS) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit
organization that brings together individuals employed by
state, statewide, and local public employees' pension plans
to exchange information, ideas, and experiences with others
facing the same challenges. By uniting Louisiana public
retirement systems, LAPERS works for their common interests,
monitors state and federal legislative activities, and enhances
public pension fund management and administration by providing
educational and informational services to its members.

Originally organized in 1985, today LAPERS
has 21 member systems representing more than 347,000 employees
and retirees and $26 billion in assets.
One of the primary educational forums
sponsored by the organization is the
Louisiana Public Retirement
Seminar, founded in 1989 by then-Representative Vincent
Joseph "V.J." Bella. This Seminar has been sponsored by
LAPERS since 1991.
